Mise-en-scene: Stranger Things analysis
1) Choose THREE aspects of mise-en-scene (e.g. costume, lighting and setting) and write a short paragraph for each about the denotation and connotation and what is communicated to the audience.
costume: the character at the start is wearing a white lab coat. this suggest that the man work in a hospital or in a laboratory.
Lightning: There are tube lights flashing as the man is running and the lights are flashing in the elevator as well. This makes the audience feel scared because there is no other lights and it is dark. so this creates a sense of danger.
Actor placement/movement/expression: The character in the beginning is running to escape from the place where he is. While the character is running he is always at the centre of the screen. he is sweating. he keeps pressing the elevator button with urgency and he keeps looking back. he looks scared and he is breathing heavily: the actors placement, movement and expression tells the audience that he is very scared and he is in danger.
